For many people, living as cheaply as possible seems stupid. After all, they didn’t go to school and work all week to live like a welfare case. For others, it’s a matter of necessity, not choice. If you live long enough, you realize that money comes and money goes. Making it the benchmark of who you are or why you do certain things seems foolish.
We live in a world that is overflowing in waste. Printers break and it is cheaper to replace them than to fix them. Computers fail and technoloy has advanced so that they become “boat anchors” (figuratively of course). What makes us think that any of us have a choice about living a frugal lifestyle? Either we are going to learn to save, reuse and recycle or we are going to be over run with trash. That being said, why not challenge yourself and see what you can do to stretch your dollar?
I know a man who is worth millions who washes the plastic disposable cups with the rest of his dishes. Some of his friends think it’s crazy but if the cup is still good, why not? Have you heard about the place in the ocean that is filling up with plastic? There is a huge area where no matter how deep they get water samples from, there is plastic in it. Does that sound healthy to you?
Why not make 2009 the year that you make an effort to reduce what you are throwing away? Picture how much trash that is if everyone in your city saved just one bag. We only have one Earth. Let’s start taking care of it.
