There are many reasons for this blog. We are living in difficult times. Many people are losing their jobs. Houses that have traditionally been a major portion of a person’s net worth are decreasing in value. Banks are failing and the stock market is plunging. If there were ever uncertain economic times, we’re in them.
So where do we go from here? Most of us can’t do much about the economy. We’re trying to hold on to our jobs or replace them if necessary. Same thing with our homes because you have to live somewhere. Your credit score may be trashed. You might even have faced foreclosure. One thing is sure, change is unavoidable. It’s a very stressful time. What ever your situation, remind yourself that you are not alone. Many people are in similar circumstances and we can help each other learn about cheap living.
On the internet, I’m known as Gandree and although I do have a Business Administration degree, I don’t claim to be an expert on finances or budgetary formulas. There are many people you can turn to for help in those areas. What I can do is to help find solutions to the everyday problems that can be so overwhelming. My husband of 33 years is handicapped and we learned to live on a shoestring many years ago. To someone who has had plenty of money to spend, it may sound hard but I’m here to tell you that with a few attitude adjustments, you can live on considerably less than most people think. It does make a difference whether you are in the country or the city, have children at home or not, but most of us can trim fat out of our budgets and actually get healthier in the process.
The first step is to stop feeling guilty or like a loser. Maybe you did get in over your head but did you know that the banks had loosened their lending policies? They were lending money that they knew people couldn’t repay. As one of my friends put it, would you lend someone hundreds of 1,000s of dollars without asking to see their income tax statement? There is plenty of blame to spread around but blame won’t fix this mess. It’s time to stand up and start over.
If you are ready to make a fresh start, then join me as we search for ways to make our lives better. If you have questions or comments, please share them on the blog so others can benefit. We need to help each other now more than ever.
