More and more I am convinced that the same things that are good for our budget are also good for the environment in general. I just finished writing a Squidoo lens called Death by Plastic about the major impact plastic is having on our environment. There is a huge pool of plastic that is twice the size of Texas in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Scientists say it is growing 10 fold every year. That’s a major problem that can only be addressed on the consumer level.
If we all use canvas grocery bags, the store won’t have to pay for plastic or paper bags. That cuts his cost and theoretically ours as well. Every time you refill your water bottle instead of buying a new one, you have saved plastic and the cost of the bottle. Plastic doesn’t biodegrade so it is imperative that we start conserving our use of it. There are so many ways to cut down on it’s use. If you garden or go to a farmer’s market, your produce isn’t wrapped in plastic. When you buy products in glass, it is recycleable and you can wash and reuse it.
Everytime we cut our costs, conserve energy and save plastic, we win.
